PCMC Celebrates 100th Interventional Cardiac Procedure

12/15/2011

Palatka, Florida – It’s been just over four months since Putnam Community Medical Center announced the expansion of its cardiology capabilities with the opening of their new Heart & Vascular Center.

Patients now have ready access to a variety of diagnostic and non-surgical treatments for the heart, including angioplasty and stenting.  Interventional cardiology relies heavily upon catheter-based techniques that are less invasive than surgical procedures, typically allowing for faster recovery and relief from symptoms.

According to Norman Weinstein, M.D., Medical Director, “Through this new program, we’re providing life-saving treatments to patients with narrowed coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart; peripheral arteries, which supply blood to the legs, feet, kidneys and abdomen; and carotid arteries, which supply blood to the head and neck.”

According to hospital CEO, Dan McLean, “What this means for our community is that lives will be saved and patients no longer have to travel outside the community for their cardiac care.”
